Start with the metal
A gram price refers to a specific karat and currency. Exclude stones from the gold weight. If the displayed price already matches your karat, do not convert it again.
Karat gram price = 24K gram price × karat ÷ 24
Metal value = net gold weight × karat gram price
A worked example
If 24K costs 400 currency units per gram, 21K is 400 × 21 ÷ 24 = 350. Ten grams of 21K gold contain metal worth 3,500 before making charges, stones and tax. If a 12 g item contains 2 g of stones, using its full weight would overstate the gold value by 700. These are teaching figures, not today’s prices.
From metal value to a store price
Ask for net weight, karat, making charges and tax separately. Design, workmanship and stones can add to the price. For resale, request an actual purchase offer: calculated metal value is not a guaranteed buyback price. Choose your country in Thahby, then use Your gold’s value or the Buyer’s calculator.
