Ask for a written breakdown
Record the net gold weight, karat, buyer’s price per gram and all deductions. Clarify whether stones are returned or excluded, and check for historical or collectible value before agreeing to melting.
Compare net proceeds
For 20 g, an offer of 330 per gram with no deduction pays 6,600. An offer of 335 per gram minus 150 pays 6,550. The higher headline price is not the higher final offer.
Use comparable quotations
Obtain quotes at similar times because market prices change. Separate the sale of old gold from the purchase of a new piece in an exchange. A calculator provides a reference, not a binding offer from a buyer.
