Terms can overlap

“Cast” describes manufacture in a mould. “Worked” can describe ornament or finishing. “Hollow” describes the interior, while “tubular” describes a tube-like structure. One bangle can fit several descriptions, and local trade names vary.

Volume does not equal weight

A large hollow bangle may contain less gold than a smaller solid one. Compare net gold weight, karat and workmanship. Wall thickness and construction affect denting and repair options; do not squeeze a piece to test it.

Before buying

Check fit, edges, joins and clasps. Ask about repairs, resizing and buyback deductions, especially for gifts. Do not bend a closed bangle at home to change its size.
