Gold weight units: grams, troy ounces and tolas

Useful conversions

1 kilogram = 1,000 grams. A troy ounce is 31.1034768 g. A commonly used tola is approximately 11.6638 g; confirm the convention on the invoice. A gemstone carat is 0.2 g, while gold karat describes purity in parts of 24.

Three troy ounces equal 93.3104304 g. At fineness 999.9, multiply that weight by 0.9999 to obtain fine-gold weight. Keep precision during calculation and round the final result.

Check what is weighed

Exclude stones and non-gold components where appropriate. Do not confuse an ordinary ounce with a troy ounce, or a gemstone’s carat weight with gold purity. Rounded values on some tools are approximations; invoice units and actual net weight govern the comparison.
